Helpful Bin Signs - Recycling, Rubbish, Return & Earn

Hello. For ages, my partner and I kept putting the wrong things in the wrong bins in our kitchen in our new place. We eventually got use to it, but then we noticed that whenever we have guests over, whic is a few times a month, they will put the wrong items in the wrong bins, especially our guest's children. So, I made these signs, Recycling, Rubbish, Return & Earn, which take under an hour each to print, they have big letters and are colour coded as well.

Your could change the colour if you like, and I just superglued mine onto the stainless steel outer body of the bins, and they are still holding for a year now. Epoxy would be a better adheasive to use for long lasting durability.

If you just have a rubbish/garbage bin and a recycling bin, you can just print the recycling sign in under an hour before you are having guests over, and with a little superglue and 5 miutes later, you have a helpful, and useful sign ready in under an hour.

We live in Australia, and our grabage is referred to as rubbish, like food scraps, plastics that are unrecyclable. Recycling is any plastic which can be recycled like HTPE (2), for cardboard and glass etc. We have hear in Australia a program for the public called ‘Return & Earn’, where we can take our empty aluminium drink cans, plastic drink botles and drink glass bottles, from drinking water, juice, soda, alcoholic drinks, flavoured milks etc, and we can return these to local centres for 10 cents an item, that can be placed in your bank acccount or used towards grocery coupons. It is a great programs, it reduces waste, increases recycling, and has seen our rouds here in Australia become cleaner, with less litter in public.

So, I made these signs to help my family and guests who are visitng help manage my homes waste and recycling, improving our fottprint on the planet, and reduce the chances of recyclable items going to land fill. Plus, My partner and I put ever 10 cents earned through our local return and earn centres into our son's savings account for when he graduates High School so he can get a car, or help pay his education fees for tertiary education.

This little project not only reduces my family's impact on our planet, but helps improve my son's future, and possibly my future other childrens' futures as well.

Remember this saying, “REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE”.
