This is one of the many marble sculptures decorating the gardens of the Palace of Versailles. This particular piece by Nicolas Poussin (1594-1665) depicts a woman, believed to be Athena or Minerva, identified by her heavy armour helmet and clothing. In her left hand she holds an olive branch and a snake coils around her body. In was completed in 1656 for the Grande Commande in 1674.   This object is part of "Scan The World".
