Helmet - 16th Century Italian Armour

myminifactory

This is a 3D model of a helmet, part of an ancient suit of armor, now proudly housed at the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences. The steel armor, crafted with skill in Italy during the 1500s, remains a mystery as its creator's identity has been lost to time. As part of Hack the Collection, a groundbreaking public program launched during the 2014 Sydney Design Festival, ten objects from the Museum's collection were scanned in 3D. This included the helmet model, which was matched with ten visionary designers from contemporary Sydney. For two days, these talented designers worked tirelessly in the Festival FabLab, manipulating the 3D object files with creativity and flair. As they brought their unique perspectives to life, the public watched with excitement, eager to see the designers' hacked interpretations take shape. Upon completion of the weekend, the designers' remixed objects were 3D printed on MakerBots, standing alongside their original counterparts for all to admire. We view our collection not as static relics, but as dynamic assets waiting to inspire fresh ideas and innovative uses. We invite you to explore our collection, download the 3D models, and take them in bold new directions. Share your creations with us, and we'll be thrilled to see how you've reimagined these objects for a brighter future.
