Hellboy Cosplay - Nimue's Helmet

Over the summer I read and completed Hellboy (comic books). In the King Arthur arch, I really loved the villain Nimue (the goddess of blood & queen of witches). Immediately I knew that I could design a 3D printed version of her helmet accurately. I decided to print it in two pieces on my MakerBot Replicator Z18. The bottom piece prints upside down. To add details to the helmet, I created foam shapes that fit into the design. These foam additions were interested into the crow's wings and cheek guards. I used a reference picture and measured to create the wing design. To attach these pieces together, I used Hot Glue. However, I wouldn't recommend this method as it destroys the designed tolerance between the two halves. Instead, I would suggest using super glue or a thinner glue like Zap A Gap with the accelerator. Make sure you wear gloves and follow instructions carefully. Once the pieces were attached, I applied a Stone Spray texture to give the helmet a stone-like appearance. This is a spray paint that textures your print in a unique way. It takes awhile to dry, so be patient. After the stone spray was dry, I applied two to three coats of matte black spray paint. Once this coat was dry, I took a large bristle brush and dabbed with silver paint. I patted off any excess paint with a paper towel and applied the brush in a dabbing motion to the helmet. The result is a metallic silver finish that resembles metal.
