Become a Patron! "Hey...Stinky!" Hellboy is a fictional superhero created by writer-artist Mike Mignola who burst onto the comic book scene in San Diego Comic-Con Comics #2 (August 1993). Since then, he has made numerous appearances in various eponymous miniseries, one-shots and intercompany crossovers. The character has been brought to life on the big screen in two live-action feature films starring Ron Perlman as Hellboy, with a second installment released in 2008, as well as two straight-to-DVD animated films, and three video games - Asylum Seeker, The Science of Evil, and Injustice 2. A film reboot starring David Harbour is scheduled for release in 2019. A half-demon by nature, Hellboy's true name is Anung Un Rama ("and upon his brow is set a crown of flame"). Summoned from the depths of Hell to Earth as an infant on October 5th by Nazi occultists, Hellboy has grown into a formidable adult with a distinctive appearance - a large, red-skinned physique, horns that he files off to reveal circular stumps on his forehead, cloven hooves for feet, and an oversized right hand made of stone. He is also known for the peculiar scent of dry-roasted peanuts that follows him everywhere. Despite his rough exterior, Hellboy possesses a gruff but kind heart and a wicked sense of humor, which he attributes to his upbringing under the care of Professor Trevor Bruttenholm, who raised him as a normal boy. As a member of the United States Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (B.P.R.D.), an international non-governmental agency, Hellboy works tirelessly to defend humanity against dark forces, including Nazis and witches, in a series of thrilling tales that draw inspiration from folklore, pulp magazines, vintage adventure, Lovecraftian horror and horror fiction.
