Helios

Helios is a majestic Greek god and embodiment of the radiant Sun. He is frequently depicted as a dashing man with a resplendent aura surrounding him, who skillfully guides the sun chariot pulled by four mighty horses across the vast expanse of the sky. This stunning marble head captures the god's likeness without the iconic aureole, yet it features intricate holes along the periphery of his cranium, cleverly designed for inserting the gleaming metal rays that once adorned his majestic crown. The striking resemblance to renowned portraits of Alexander the Great hints at Lysippan models as the inspiration behind this masterpiece. Currently, this incredible work of art is proudly displayed in the Archaeological Museum of Rhodes, a fitting tribute to Helios' status as the city's revered patron deity.
