Helios 44M-4 Nikon Infinity Focus mod parts
thingiverse
About one and a half years ago, I bought a Helios 44M-4 for my Nikon D3200 camera body. It was my first prime lens, reasonably priced, but with an attractively unique swirly bokeh. However, the main drawback was that the lens couldn't focus to infinity on a Nikon body. I started modifying the lens at that time by replacing the M42 screw mount with a Nikon F adapter. I managed to get about two meters of focus distance, but it wasn't infinity. Additionally, I had to create a plastic component that held down the aperture enable lever inside the lens. This part was cut from a CD case and worked exceptionally well. To achieve infinity focus, I had to unscrew the rear lens element (closest to the sensor) by 0.9 millimeters to align the focus plane with the sensor. Since acquiring my 3D printer six days ago, creating custom parts has become significantly easier than before. I measured everything and designed the necessary components to convert my Helios to an infinity-focus lens compatible with a Nikon body. The attached images show where to place each part. The final image is a quick test snapshot with the lens focused at infinity. I didn't include disassembly images or videos as they can be easily found on YouTube. I ordered an aluminum M42-to-Nikon F adapter from eBay for approximately $1. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if this design will work with other Helios 44M models. I hope you find this design useful. Sorry about my poor English.
