What a relief to get this finalized and posted up...whew. So many late night hours and a couple sleepless nights getting it just right for the Solidsmack Awesome Sauce contest. Got to thank my awesome girlfriend for being so understanding ;) . So, this is the first of a two part series of a car design I’ve had in the back of my mind since I was a kid. If it’s one thing that inspired me to get my engineering degree, it would be cars, or maybe robots, or maybe robot cars. Anyway, I’m a mechatronics engineer, and I think it’s important for anyone considering studying any science and engineering course, that, no matter what the project, artistic design or hardcore engineering, having a well studied and broad knowledge basis that schooling provides will allow you to bring all your ideas to life. So by that theory, expect to see me cruising down the Australian/South African coast in this in the, hopefully, near future. It’s been a great learning experience putting this together. I started with a sculpture in Mudbox, then used it as a pattern for the mesh created using T-Splines and Rhino. Importing the body shell into Solidworks, I then finished off the details, before rendering with Photoview 360 and Keyshot. There is one car in particular that was a big inspiration for me, if anyone can pick it, I’ll award you 1,000,000 bonus points redeemable for my mutual respect as a car nut :).
