The "Helinge" hinge offers a novel elicoidal motion, enabled by Additive Manufacturing's design freedom. It combines 90° rotation and upward/downward translation between elements through a cylinder-and-rod mechanism inside two helical sleeves. The rods' helix shape produces 90° to 180° rotation and a quarter-pitch translation along the axis, with interfering rod ends preventing full exit from sleeves. Manufactured as a single 3D-printed part, it simplifies production and allows easy removal of support material or unsintered powder. The "Helinge" demonstrates how 3D printing and additive manufacturing can revolutionize hinge design and mechanical connections in the future.
