Helical Gears
thingiverse
I created an Optical Illusion of a Frame with Helical Gears and I wanted to see if I could replicate the effect using 3D Printed parts. I printed the Frame upside down without support structures. I printed the gears with additional support to ensure they turned out correctly. I inserted threads into the Gears and Collars for Set Screws but discovered they were a snug fit, so I didn't need them after all. Threads in the Frame: 6-32 UNC Thread in the Gears: 8-32 UNC Thread in the Crank: 10-24 UNC Thread in the Lower Shaft: 6-32 UNC Threads in the Upper Shaft: 10-24 UNC Threads in the Collar: 8-32 UNC When taking a picture of the finished print assembled, place the camera as far back as possible and use the zoom feature. The farther away the focal point is from the subject, the more convincing it will look. Additionally, position lights to highlight dark areas so that the frame appears evenly lit throughout.
