Helical Gearbox
pinshape
This is a helical gearbox that transfers torque between offset axles at a right angle. It's made up of two identical helical gears, two axle/handles, two casing halves, and two casing caps. The axles are designed to fit loosely/press fit inside the gears with a clearance of 0.5 mm, while the caps are press fit around the casings with a clearance of 0.2 mm, and all other parts fit loosely. To achieve a tight fit on the axles or end caps, scotch tape or similar tape can be used to reduce clearance. The gear bores are designed to be 1/2" hex. All parts can print perfectly without support. Shown parts were printed with a 0.7 mm nozzle and a 0.4 mm layer height in Solutech Gold PLA. The caps fit together easily, but the axles needed scotch tape to stay seated in the gears.
