Helical Gear Pen Holder
thingiverse
Pen holders that intermesh and rotate! Requires one 608 skate bearing per barrel for smooth rotation. Two choices of base: 1) round double base for a basic 2-gear holder (pictured) 2) jigsaw base for unlimited number of gears in any tiled configuration! Tips: - Print all objects right side up. (rgear was rendered upside-down) - lgears can only mesh with rgears and vice versa. So remember to print both and alternate them in a checkerboard pattern when assembling! - lgear and rgear are just mirror images of each other. - No supports necessary - If the 608 bearing fitment is too tight on your print, shave or file off the z-scar. - You do need a well-tuned extrusion multiplier for the interlocking parts to fit well, so do calibration cubes if you run into problems. The jigsaw pieces have clearance of only 0.1mm so they should be tight and hold rigid against each other. Update (2019/05/25): - Compatible with original version - Inserted a hole in the central pegs of doublebase to help prevent breakage when infill is low - Fillet on inside of gear teeth against the bottom bearing holder part, to mitigate the small ridge that appears at the teeth at this Z-height, and to stabilize the gear teeth while printing - Chamfer on the bottom edges of the barrels to compensate for elephant's foot, since proper dimensional tolerance is so important for the gears to spin properly. Turn your own slicer's elephant's foot compensation off or the model will not properly adhere. Update (2019/05/31): - Added a curved bowl on bottom of the barrel to further break up the large flat top infill that overfills and creates a ridge on the gear teeth which caused them to not spin smoothly. When slicing make sure that the gear teeth are mostly hollow (except for infill) and consistently so or there will be a ridge on the outside interfering with the gears meshing. - Made the pegs on the bases narrower so the 608 bearing can be fit and removed more easily. If you are having trouble removing bearings, use a dinner knife to pry it out.
