Heiland Flashgun Saber Parts
thingiverse
A few parts for real Heiland flashguns are used to make them look like Vader sabers. Most of the parts will fit any 1.5" (38mm) tube. The original two lightsabers were made out of mid-20th century press camera three-D-cell flashguns with the bulbs and reflectors removed. Skywalker's was a Graflex flashgun, and Vader's was a British copy of a Heiland flashgun made by a company called MPP. MPPs were just slightly different than Heilands, but fewer MPPs were made so they are now much harder to find. The "Heiland Accurate Shroud" is a new version of the idea made with the newer version of Tinkercad. It is a very close match to the real Heiland reflector holder. It is actually capable of holding the original 6.5"-7" Heiland reflector. Not sure how PLA would enjoy the heat of a flashbulb, but a different material may make a functional replacement if you're trying to restore a flashgun for photography. The "Accurate Shroud1" print is an older version. It is not an exact match of either the MPP or Heiland reflector holders, but it is a nice compromise of the two designs. In this case, "Accurate" refers to the dimensions being perfect for a real Heiland flash handle. It also holds real flashgun parts properly. There are three Grip files: A longer one, a shorter one, and a shorter one with a built-in threaded-pommel. I haven't tried the last one yet, as it's a little too intricate for my printer. The longer one is close to what's on the 2005 Master/Hasbro reproduction saber, but the shorter one looks better on the handle to my eye. The Blade Holder works for 1" (24.5mm) blades. It is designed to mimic the actual flashbulb socket. It has a space in it for a tactile switch to reside under the red manual flash button on the flashgun. The hole on the opposite side needs to be enlarged to accommodate a blade retention knob. The safety plug, printed in a nice translucent plastic, will keep the geniuses in your life from looking directly into a class II laser (or 3 or 4). It slides into the Blade Holder, when the blade is absent, and is held in place gently with the same retaining screw as the blade. The control box mimics the one on Vader's Saber. It's 1.75" where the real thing is closer to 2", but you can scale it if you want. The threaded pommels actually tightly screw into the bottom of a Heiland flash handle, so you can let sound out without destroying the original battery cap. (The pommel's ID is 31mm, so any smaller speaker will work.) 35.7mm (1.4 in) is the size you should make any inner supports or "core reveal" pieces with. I made some for my particular electronics/electrical combinations, but you should design your own to match what you have.
