A heavy-duty retract unit for RC planes has been upgraded to operate effectively in planes weighing up to 4 kg or 60-size, potentially larger. Initial testing reveals smooth operation without issues. Trunnion85 is an 85° trunnion designed specifically for this application. Trunnion90 is a 90° trunnion engineered for optimal performance. Trunnion95 is a 95° trunnion built with precision and durability in mind. To prepare the retract unit, carefully remove the support blocks shown in the illustration using pliers. This step is straightforward and requires minimal effort. Next, thread 3mm steel wire or carbon rod through the arm and trunnion to create a hinge and guide pin system. This setup ensures smooth movement and precise control. A special retract servo is recommended for optimal performance, featuring beneficial features that enhance overall functionality. However, a regular servo can also be used if desired. The trunnions are designed to fit 5 mm landing gear legs securely. To secure the landing gear leg in place, use an M4x6 grub screw in the trunnion. Make sure to create a flat spot on the landing gear leg to prevent rotation within the trunnion. Finally, clean up the slot in the sides of the retract bases until they are straight and parallel. This ensures the guide pin in the arm slides freely without any obstructions.
