Heavy-Duty Air-Tight Filament Spool Case

Heavy-Duty Air-Tight Filament Spool Case
Having used numerous spools of moisture-sensitive materials over the years, I'm getting a bit fed up with constantly drying the same filament spool over and over. The Heavy-Duty Air-Tight Filament Spool Case is designed to enclose a single standard 200mm spool in an air-tight enclosure. The standard design allows for 65mm wide spools with a 50mm centre. You can alter this by adding or removing layers and editing the spool base.f3d file. Remember to adjust the screw lengths if you do make changes. Designed specifically for 1.75mm filament, but easily adaptable for use with 2.85mm filament instead. You will need access to a laser cutter. I have laid-up all the parts, excluding the two caps, to fit onto a single 900mm x 600mm sheet. The design uses 5mm Cast Acrylic Sheet, but you can use just about any thickness you like – just be sure to recount the number of components you'll need. The Cork Seal is made from 2mm Cork Sheet. I highly recommend making the laser cut parts first and measuring the thickness of the 5 smallest parts. I have found that the tolerance for the acrylic is pretty bad, so it's essential to edit the bowden.f3d file and create one to match the measured gap. After assembling the case, cover the inside with silicone sealant to keep out any moisture. You can add a spot of glue as you assemble the case to help keep things together – just be sure to use a glue that isn't quick-set and allows time for you to finish the assembly. I have exported Fusion 360 .F3D files for each component, so you can edit sketches and modify things to your own design.
