Heated Bed Stabilizers for Monoprice Maker Select v2.1 (Wanhao i3)
thingiverse
Problem: The Monoprice Maker Select v2.1 stock heated bed easily slides a mm or two in each direction on the Y carriage plate. This causes noticeable layer shifts in the X and Y axis from even the slightest bump to the heated bed during printing. Solution: These heated bed stabilizers grip the bed screws to prevent them from wobbling around in the larger carriage plate holes. The springs and thumbscrews work together to press the stabilizers against the carriage plate, providing enough friction to keep the screws stable along the X and Y axis. Post-Printing To assemble, remove the thumbscrews from the heated bed and lift up each corner. You don't have to completely remove the heated bed from the carriage plate. Create a sandwich at each corner: Heated bed SpringTop printed part Aluminum y-carriage plateBottom printed part Thumbscrew/wingnut After reassembling all corners, fully compress and release all four corners of the heated bed repeatedly until the corners move smoothly within spring limits. This loosens up the holes in the printed parts to permit the bed to shift if the extruder bumps it due to a Z-axis problem. How I Designed This I was trying to print four y-axis bearing brackets and couldn't get a set to print without layer shifts that would throw off bearing bracket alignment. This led me to find out why. As an exclusive PETG printer, I get occasional large blobs, particularly on infill. When the print head bumped these blobs, it shifted the entire heated bed in relation to the Y carriage, causing layer shifts. I developed this mod to fix this problem. Note that I originally designed this mod with superglue in mind, but a test fit showed it solved the problem without gluing, so I published it that way.
