Heated Bed Insulator

Heated Bed Insulator

thingiverse

Hello All- I made this cork heated bed insulator out of cork, using the 3M adhesive from the link below to attach it to my heated bed. I cut holes in the cork for the springs and screws. To make accurate cuts, I found it easiest to create a paper template and transfer the correct measurements over to the cork. Next, I used Gorilla tape to seal the edges of the cork to the bed. Additionally, I used some tape to lap onto the bottom of the cork to ensure the tape stayed in place during the process, starting with the edges first. You can see the tape clearly in the pictures, and so far it has had no issues with the bed temperature or staying attached. Take your time cutting the cork slowly to achieve square edges, also go slowly when transferring the adhesive (which works like double-sided tape but is very thin and rubbery). If you have any questions or need more information, please let me know. Overall, I'm really pleased with how it turned out and the added benefit of insulation. I recommend a minimum thickness of 1/2" for this project, as the stock springs and bolts still work fine but are adjusted pretty low - which is not an issue. If you're using a glass plate as well, I highly recommend Pascal32's spacer, which fits great on my X-One printer and scales the thickness axis to fit your glass thickness. Thanks! Also in the picture, I used jpotegal's spring adapter on the non-heated part only - these help make the springs less wobbly. However, do not use them on the heated side as they will melt in PLA (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2160569).
