A heat exchanger is a mechanism that facilitates thermal energy exchange between two or more fluid mediums. The fluids can be either single-phase or two-phase, and depending on the type, they may be segregated or directly interact. Though devices with energy sources like nuclear fuel rods or fired heaters generally aren't considered as heat exchangers, their design principles often overlap.
