My mom came to me with an urgent request: she needed a box to store her grandmother's treasured bracelet, and she wanted it to be custom-made. She shared some ideas and requirements, and within minutes I designed a heart-shaped box that matched its lid perfectly, complete with a beautiful rose on top. The inspiration for the rose came from a 3D image on SketchUp, which sparked an idea that I couldn't wait to bring to life. After finishing the first box, my daughter caught wind of it and demanded one of her own - but this time, she wanted a My Little Pony on it. Since I had already perfected the design, making another was a breeze. I used my MakerBot Replicator 2X to print both boxes, with some adjustments for each one. For the top box, I chose to print upside down with supports to achieve a smooth surface - and although it required some minor cleaning, the results were well worth the extra effort.
