headphone cord clip v2.4
thingiverse
This is a cord-keeper for earbud cords and headphone cords. I designed it because I wanted to keep my wrapped cords organized in my backpack without using a spool, spindle, bobbin, or card. To achieve this, I created a modified 'roadie-wrap' (alternating over/under figure-8, folded in half) that allows me to keep my earbud cords nicely held together. I designed it in OnShape - https://cad.onshape.com/documents/cc742dee594226008b4902e0/w/009f51350b6fb6d8844f49be/e/79ed7b44ccb61d323e0d6736 Printer Settings Tiko 3D Rafts: No Supports: Yes Infill: Medium Notes: I printed mine from PLA (the filament shipped with the Tiko 3D) at 200C. I used Cura3D slicer because the built-in slicer from Tiko makes a raft mandatory, which would ruin this object. However, I didn't build any supports into the model, so make sure to turn on supports in your slicer software, as 3D printing a helix/spiral is very tricky otherwise - this thing has all overhang. How I Designed This The first iteration (v1) of the clip was more like a "C" with a circular array of divots cut out, acting as hinge points. However, because PLA is stiff and I didn't have any flexible filament, it didn't work well and just snapped. Next iteration (v2.0) was a helix with 1.1x wrap, mirrored on the vertical axis - resembling ram's horns. The cross-section of the spiraled component in this iteration was too small, making it too frail. Iteration v2.1 was a beefed-up version of 2.0, but the spacing/pitch was too tight and my wrapped cords didn't fit easily into it. Iterations v2.2 and v2.3 were tweaks on v2.1 - widening the pitch. Iteration v2.4 (the one I've uploaded) has a wide enough pitch to slip my cords in, an extended central part with a little knob at the end to help retain the cords, almost like a beak.
