Headphone Cable Tester

My kids go through a lot of headphone cables and we often end up with piles of uncertain quality cables and needed a quick and easy way to test them.

I've made this simple tester that can catch if a cable is broken and is powered from USB. It draws about 80mA.

The box for it is designed to be big enough to handle all the cables and the LEDs just poke through the lid. There is a built in support for adding a cable tie to give some strain relief for the cables (stop the kids destroying it to quickly!).

I built the circuit on 3.5"x2.05" (88.9mm x 52.1mm) breadboard and the pictures show where to place the LEDs to get them to poke through the lid ok.

If you want you can edit the box on TinkerCad here: https://www.tinkercad.com/things/i51tDyc2TOZ
