The distinctive protuberance on the head (ushnisha) and the raised spot on the forehead (urna) are typical attributes of Buddha sculptures. Iconic images from Gandhara feature wavy hair combed back to frame the face. It wasn't until the initial decades of the 1st century AD that the first Buddha statues started to emerge.
