Head of the Buddha

Head of the Buddha

myminifactory

The serene countenance of this tranquil face, characterized by its full lips and almost shut eyes, draws inspiration from the final phase of Khmer art emanating from the storied capital of ANgkor in Cambodia. By the 11th and 12th centuries, Thailand had been a constituent part of the vast Khmer empire. When this Buddha image was crafted, Thailand had already broken free from the Khmer's grasp, yet Cambodian artistic traditions continued to exert a profound influence.
