Sophocles, born approximately 496 BCE in Colonus near Athens Greece, died 406 in Athens, is one of the three renowned tragic playwrights from classical Athens, alongside Aeschylus and Euripides. His most celebrated drama is Oedipus the King out of a total of 123 works.
