Head of Mourning Penelope
myminifactory
Acquired in 1879 from the Dressel Collection in Rome, Marble, Roman, after a model dating back to the fifth century BC A sorrowful woman rests her head in her hand, filled with grief. This motif is also seen in statue types and 'Melian' reliefs, earning her the name of Odysseus' virtuous wife, who patiently waited twenty years for his return. Perhaps this Roman replica was part of a funerary monument. This object is part of "Scan The World", a non-profit initiative introduced by MyMiniFactory, which aims to create a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks and landmarks from around the globe for public access.
