Maximinus Thrax, whose Latin name was Gaius Julius Verus Maximinus Augustus and who lived around 173 to May 238, is also known as Maximinus I. As Roman Emperor from 235 to 238, he played a significant role in history. According to several ancient sources, including Herodian's Roman History, which is one of the few contemporary accounts available, Maximinus was a barracks emperor who rose to power during the 3rd century AD. His reign is often seen as marking the beginning of the Crisis of the Third Century. Unfortunately, his life came to an end in Aquileia when he attempted to quell a Senatorial uprising.
