Head of Doryphorus
myminifactory
This head is one of many replicas emulating the visage of the renowned Doryphoros, or spear-bearer, crafted by the illustrious sculptor Polykleitos in the mid-5th century BC. The discovery of numerous Roman duplicates in bath complexes, gymnasia, and villas clearly shows that this sculpture type was frequently utilized for decorative purposes. The artwork originated during the latter half of the 1st century AD.
