Human: Acquired before 1891 Marble, Roman, after an original from approximately 460/450 BC Polykleitos created numerous bronze statues depicting gods and athletes. This head originates from a type that presumably portrayed an athlete holding a discus in his left hand. The shape of the head so characteristic of Polykleitos' work, most notably the finely carved curly hairstyle, corresponds with the head of the Spear-Bearer located nearby. This object is part of "Scan The World".
