Head of Buddha
sketchfab
The Buddha's Head, a revered relic once adorned with a halo and forming part of a complete figure, would have been venerated within the sacred precincts of a monastic shrine. The facial characteristics and flowing locks unmistakably betray Greek and Roman influences that permeated Gandhara, a region now divided between Pakistan and Afghanistan, via extensive trade contacts in ancient times. On display at the Freer Sackler Museum, part of the esteemed Smithsonian Museums in Washington D.C., this priceless artifact holds significant cultural value. Unfortunately, photos taken from directly above the Buddha's head were not available due to technical issues.
