Head of Balbinus
myminifactory
This head of Balbinus dates back to around 239 A.D., originating from Rome's ancient market for antiquities. Birth records for Balbinus remain unclear, with one source suggesting AD 178 as a possible birth year, but AD 170 or 165 appear more plausible alternatives. Balbinus is the son, either by bloodline or adoption, of a prominent Roman named Caelius Calvinus, a member of the Salian priesthood and thus a patrician of high standing. Throughout his distinguished senatorial career, he served as consul in AD 203 and 213, and held governorships over at least seven provinces, with Asia and Africa being his final two postings.
