Head of Aphrodite of the Capitoline type at The Louvre, Paris

cults3d

This iconic head of Aphrodite belongs to a statuary type showcased by a renowned replica housed at the Capitoline Museum in Rome. The lavish ornamentation of the hair is a stylistic treatment characteristic of the third or second centuries BC, when Roman copies of the original Greek masterpiece were likely created. The head has been severed from the Capitoline Aphrodite (99.350). Restoration work includes the nose, lower lip, and end of the chin. The surfaces display slight damage and wear, resulting from post-Antique handling.
