Amenemhet III ruled Egypt during its Twelfth Dynasty, taking the throne from around 1860 BC until approximately 1814 BC. His reign is recognized as the peak period of the Middle Kingdom era. Some historians speculate that he may have shared power with his father Senusret III for nearly two decades. At the end of his rule, Amenemhet III established a joint rulership with his successor Amenemhet IV, as noted in an inscription on a damaged rock at Konosso in Nubia, which equates Year 1 of Amenemhet IV to either Year 46, 47 or 48 of Amenemhet III's reign. His daughter Sobekneferu later succeeded Amenemhet IV, marking the final ruler of the Twelfth Dynasty. Amenemhet III's throne name Nimaatre signifies "Belonging to Re's Justice."
