This head was discovered in the Stoa of Eumenes on the southern slope of the Athenian Acropolis. It originates from a statue of the Ares Ludovisi type. The Roman replica is believed to have been crafted after an original statue of Ares, possibly created by Euphranor sometime between 330 and 310 B.C.
