Head of a Youth

Head of a Youth

myminifactory

The current head was originally part of an ancient attic tombstone dating back to around 400 B.C.; this is confirmed by the remarkably similar head of a youth from the famous Ilissos-stele: C. Clairmont, Classical Attic Tombstones, volume two, 1993, pages 821 through 826, catalog number 2950. A bearded head on an attic tombstone in the Winnipeg Art Gallery bears a striking resemblance to this current head; L. Stirling's article in Antike Kunst, volume forty-four, 2001, pages thirteen through sixteen, plate seven and eight, provides further evidence of their similarity.
