Head of a Young Man

The Roman head likely comes from a legendary Greek hero known as Triptolemus, whose long hair on the sculpture makes it impossible to consider him an athlete. The Roman makeover is most evident in the classic, sentimental line of the head; this is the only surviving copy of the piece. Archaeologists allegedly discovered it near Herculaneum, Italy, back in 1750.
