Head of a Warrior at MoMA, New York
myminifactory
The warrior figure and the plaster's gleaming white surface evoke a sense of ancient classical sculpture, but this work is actually crafted from an eclectic assortment of found materials. A sturdy industrial pipe supports the warrior's weight, one of many unexpected elements Picasso incorporated into this sculpture; others have been encased in plaster for added texture. A tennis ball forms each eye, while X-ray analysis has revealed a crowbar lodged in the warrior's neck, and the ridges near the base are fashioned from corrugated metal or cardboard strips. The warrior's semicircular headdress is secured by chicken wire and adorned with discarded sculptural molds.
