Gaetano Monti led a prolific life as an Italian sculptor, thriving in the vibrant city of Milan from 1750 until his passing in 1824. Details about his illustrious career remain somewhat elusive; however, it is well-documented that he served as an esteemed instructor of anatomy at the prestigious Ospedale Maggiore. His students included renowned artists Andrea Appiani and Gaetano Matteo Monti, who also called Milan home during a significant portion of their careers. Due to the striking resemblance between their names and the coincidental fact that the younger artist spent time in Milan, it is often debated whether these two talented sculptors were one and the same individual.
