Head of a Bearded God
myminifactory
This towering representation of a bearded deity stands out as an exceptional example of freestanding sculpture from Dura-Europos, a notable distinction given the abundance of reliefs unearthed at this site. It is virtually certain to represent a god: Hadad emerges as a strong possibility, in part due to its discovery outside the temple dedicated to his consort Atargatis. Dark pigmentation remains remarkably well-preserved on the large, almond-shaped eyes and brows (not visible in this digital representation), as does the vibrant red hue on the lips.
