Head from Women of Steel sculpture in Sheffield

thingiverse

This is a scan of the head of the rightmost woman in the stunning Women of Steel sculpture located in Sheffield city centre, UK. The iconic monument honours the vital contributions women made to the Sheffield steel industry during World War I and II, when their unwavering dedication kept production running seamlessly. As I scanned the sculpture, I met a local resident who shared fascinating insights into its history. He expressed enthusiasm for the scan, believing it would spark interest in creating more souvenirs, such as small-scale replicas, to commemorate the monument's significance. The scan may inspire someone to cherish a memento of their visit to Sheffield. I printed the head at 40mm high using a combination of techniques that yielded a smooth finish. A mixture of sanding, priming, and water-based enamel ensured a durable coating. This process also allowed me to create a mould in two-part silicone, from which I've produced a resin version infused with fine white sand filler. The photo attached showcases the model's appearance after printing.
