Head from a marble statue of Vespasian

Head from a marble statue of Vespasian

myminifactory

The head comes from a colossal marble statue of Emperor Vespasian, possibly reworked from a portrait of Nero after his death and posthumous condemnation. The nose is noticeably absent. This possibility is suggested by the appearance on the back of the neck where it seems that an originally longer section of hair was carved away, the unusually large ears, and discrepancies in the hairstyle.
