The head and shoulders of a Sphinx originate from ancient Egypt during the New Kingdom's Dynasty 18, specifically during the joint reign of Hatshepsut and Thutmose III around 1473-1458 B.C. Located in Upper Egypt, Thebes houses the Deir el-Bahri site where the Sphinx was discovered near Senenmut Quarry & temple courts. Crafted from granite with paint, it stands at a height of 47.3 inches. Acquired by the Metropolitan Museum of Art - New York in 1931 through the Rogers Fund, it carries accession number 31.3.167. The digital capture of this work was done by Svetlana and John Briscella using Autodesk 123D Catch during the Met MakerBot Hackathon in June 2012.
