HE280 Hotend Whip Retention Clip for Rostock Max V3
thingiverse
UPDATE 2018-02-01: I'm done dealing with zip ties so I've created two locking components. The TPU one is perfect for when you're using an HE280 with fan shrouds above it because it's flexible enough to slide around them and onto the clip. The other one is designed for effectors without high fan shrouds - just print it out of PLA or your preferred material. Once connected, either lock simply slips over the clip and prevents it from coming loose. UPDATE 2017-05-08: Has anyone else made this? I've had around 30 downloads and I'm curious how it's working for you. If you print this and use it, please leave a comment. Thanks! If your Rostock has an HE280 hot end, you might have noticed that the wire whip plug doesn't have any retention mechanism. On two occasions, my hotend got disconnected from the printer - once causing a thermal runaway and another time getting driven into the bed until I hit the emergency stop. These incidents led me to think of ways to prevent it from happening again. This replacement cover and retention clip for your HE280 will ensure that your hotend stays plugged in. I've printed and tested both components on my printer, and they work as intended. The heat shrink on the wire whip does make the clip a bit harder to engage, but I've added a zip tie around it as an extra safety measure. The HE280 is standard on the Rostock Max V3 and can be easily upgraded on any Rostock Max. UPDATE: I realized that I uploaded an old cover file without enough clearance for the clip. v2 fixes this issue, but if you've already printed it, don't worry - you can modify it with a razor blade or file. I'm actually running v1 on my printer and haven't encountered any problems. Print Settings Printer Brand: SeeMeCNC Printer: Rostock MAX Rafts: No Supports: Yes Resolution: 0.5mm nozzle; 0.2mm layer height Infill: Doesn't Matter Notes: I printed the cover with PLA using supports everywhere. The retention clip, on the other hand, was printed without support in PETG for greater flexibility - but maybe PLA would have been stiffer and held the whip better. On my printer, I used a zip tie (or one of the newly uploaded locks) around the retention clip to ensure that it doesn't slip. How I Designed This I started with SeeMeCNC's models of all Rostock parts and began working on the HE280 cover by cutting out space for the clip. Then, I designed a clip to fit perfectly into the space.
