HDD Caddy for HP ProLiant MicroServer G7 v2
thingiverse
This is an improved version of the HDD caddy replacement for HP MicroServer G7. After several years of using the first version (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2835085), I have gained valuable insights into its design and functionality. Lesson learned one: The connection between the lock and housing parts, with a self-tapping hole, is the most stressed area in the original design. Unfortunately, it has cracked several times, leading me to conclude that choosing the correct layer orientation is crucial for optimal performance. Lesson learned two: It makes sense to have a single-print body as one piece, resulting in a simpler and more rigid structure with proper layer alignment. Lesson learned three: Ventilation could be improved for better airflow within the caddy. Lesson learned four: The springs in the original design are not necessary and can be omitted. Based on these lessons, I redesigned this HDD caddy to improve its overall performance. It now consists of two main parts: the main body and the lock mechanism. As evident from the images provided, the correct orientation for printing is essential for a successful build. To achieve optimal results, it is recommended to use PET-G plastic and tree-like supports (available in the experimental section of Cura or manually built). This combination yields the best outcomes. Please note that this revised design is not a clone of the original part; instead, it boasts a distinct appearance and shape. Additionally, while PLA/ABS plastic exhibits excellent strength and heat resistance, they may not match those of the original component. Update: I have updated the specifications for the screw head diameter to 5 mm, with a height between 2.5 and 3 mm. The thread length can be adjusted up to 10 mm; a photo is available for reference.
