I whipped up a new 3D model in anticipation of getting my hands on a shiny new 3D printer. First, I printed it out in glossy black PLA, then gave it a sleek finish with metallic silver paint. Update: After running through the slicer, I noticed some weird patterns emerging, so I went back and edited the original STL to fix this mess. Further update: Forget about this one - you should totally print Kaybie's superior version instead! Print Settings Printer Brand: Wanhao Printer Model: Wanhao Duplicator i3 Plus Rafts: No Rafts Needed Supports: None Required Infill: 5-10% for Added Strength Notes: For the best results, print two of these and glue them back-to-back. How I Designed This Long Version First, I fired up my trusty old Dreamcast. Next, I scoured around and found my VGA box, VGA-HDMI converter, and a snazzy HDMI capture card. Then, I played Shenmue until Ryo got the handguard. After that, I took a screenshot of the scene. Subsequently, I imported the screenshot into Photoshop and used shapes to recreate the outline in one-sixth scale. Once I had done this, I duplicated the section, rotated it five times, and voilà! The correct shape was born. Next, I used more shapes to add the detailing. When I completed the outline, I exported the image as a .SVG file. I then filled in the black area and exported another .SVG. Finally, I imported both files into TinkerCAD, aligned them perfectly, and gave the outline a 4mm depth while setting the other shape at 2mm. Last but not least, I uploaded the file to Thingiverse. Short Version I threw some shapes together in Photoshop and came up with this sweet design.
