This seemingly innocuous round bale of hay is actually an imposing subject to study, its repeating texture making it challenging to pinpoint accurately. Composed of 89x12 megapixel images captured with a smartphone in early October 2020 at dawn, the data was subsequently condensed from 5.1 million vertices down to 1.2 million. In an effort to preserve the delicate straw protrusions, an unusually dense mesh was implemented, as overly aggressive topology adjustments would likely erode these fine structures.
