Hawaiian Islands with seafloor
thingiverse
The height data for this model comes from the Space Shuttle Radar Topography Mission dataset and the seafloor is sourced from NOAA's ETOPO1 dataset. I combined these two heightmaps, displacing the terrain onto a high-resolution plane, before adding surrounding walls that align with sea level exactly. Once the seafloor was painted, I poured liquid resin up to the walls. After it had set, I painted the islands using acrylics and inks. Printer Settings The printer used is the Cocoon Create, which has print settings configured as follows: Rafts are off, supports are off, and the resolution is 0.2mm. Infill is at 25%. Notes on printing indicate that 3 bottom layers and 4 top layers were printed to achieve a smooth sea floor. Post-Printing Resin Fill Using any hard-setting liquid resin, fill the model up to sea level (side walls align with sea level) to create a transparent ocean.
