HATY the support fox demo
thingiverse
For all 3D printing projects, students need to consider various overhangs, bridges and arches. As they start designing their first prints, point out that supports may be necessary for angles over 45 degrees (Y), bridges (H) or exposed overhangs (A). You can also change the print's orientation to show them how to eliminate supports entirely. By laying HATY flat on the build plate, this can be printed without any supports. To add visual interest, use white or semi-translucent filament and mark the filament before it goes into the hot end with dry-erase or permanent markers. The colors will be pastel shaded but give a clear view of the layers and orientation of the print. You can leave the supports and brims on the print to show the raw and processed prints, as well as clean up the finished product. HATY stands for H, Arches, T, Y.
