The Hassan II Mosque is a Moroccan mosque located in Casablanca and stands partly over the sea. It's a religious and cultural complex spanning nine hectares, featuring a prayer hall, ablution area, baths, a Quranic school (madrasa), library, museum, and can accommodate 25,000 worshippers in its main prayer hall with an additional 80,000 on the esplanade for a total capacity of 105,000 people. It's one of the largest mosques worldwide, boasting a minaret standing at least 210 meters high, the tallest in the world. Over 53,000 square meters of wood and more than 10,000 square meters of zellige (glazed ceramic tiles) were crafted by artisans from across Morocco for the interior. A retractable roof allows fresh air to flow into the mosque, following King Hassan II's intention to connect the building with the four elements essential to life - air, earth, fire, and water. Designed by Michel Pinseau, it was built by the French group Bouygues.
