Harrow Horse

Harrow Horse

This breathtaking equestrian sculpture towers majestically at the entrance to Paris' iconic Musée d'Orsay. Captivated by its sheer dynamism, I made a concerted effort to capture high-quality images of this magnificent horse sculpture: the overwhelming enormity it commands; the tangible physicality and presence that fills the space around it; the captivating dynamics of its pose, which seems to convey an air of quiet majesty; and the extraordinary attention to sculptural detail (the subtle wrinkles etched into the neck and muzzle, the delicate feathering at the fetlocks, the precision-crafted nails set within the hoof wall, and horseshoes). Even the smallest details, such as individually crafted hair strands that mirror the direction of hair flow, have been meticulously rendered. Created by Pierre-Louis Rouillard (1820-1881) for the 1878 Universal Exhibition (World's Fair), this sculpture was initially placed in front of the Palace Trocadero before being relocated to its current position near the entrance to the Musée d'Orsay in 1986.
