We are printing a character from a well-known video game, Destiny. The character's name is Ghost and he's an AI for the player in the game. As for size, this robot is no larger than a baseball and features intricate details. This 3D model includes many pieces that we had to put together. It was made by BoldPrintShop and we found it on Thingiverse.com. We added personal touches and changed the shapes, then we had our Ghost. Students should learn how to print in 3D, create models with Blender, and think about how large-scale 3D printing could change the world. 8th-12th graders are suitable for this project due to maturity level to avoid self-harm while printing and computer skills. Students already need basic knowledge of 3D printing and running Blender to tackle this challenge. Students should start with design/editing a model on Blender. The next step is putting the model into MakerBot and creating a file, which should be saved to a flash drive for later use. After preparing everything, print the object and assemble if necessary. Lastly, describe how you printed this 3D model, and explain how you think it works and the potential changes 3D printing could make in the world.
